Conservator/Restorer

Conservation | Letterfrack works almost exclusively within the heritage sector in Ireland and adheres to the highest standards in furniture conservation and restoration. We are currently seeking to recruit a furniture conservator with the relevant qualifications and with a strong interest in traditional woodworking processes and materials. The ideal candidate would be self-motivated with a strong capacity for problem solving and well developed hand skills.

The successful candidate will be based at our workshop in Letterfrack and will be required to work on-site from time to time.

A position with Conservation | Letterfrack would suit someone who is interested in traditional skills, materials and processes and who has the capacity to  undertake projects that require perseverance and attention to detail.

Intern opportunities

Conservation | Letterfrack are  interested in hearing from students who would like to get experience in working in a busy conservation and restoration workshop. Interns will gain practical experience in examining artefacts, developing treatment proposals; working on the objects and documenting all treatments, the intern will also gain knowledge of materials and chemicals used in conservation and restoration.

The intern will receive formal/informal training in the following; using scientific tools such as microscopic analysis; developing treatment proposals; working on objects and creating a portfolio of properly documented work. The intern will receive full training on all the equipment and materials in the workshop including health and safety, and will have access to an extensive library of images, books and datasheets.
